Who Qualifies as an NRI or PIO/OCI

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) refers to an Indian citizen residing outside India temporarily with a valid Indian passport. Persons of Indian Origin and Overseas Citizens of India, including individuals with Indian roots or spouses of Indian citizens, are also eligible to apply. All plans are issued in Indian Rupees and can be completed during your visit to India or under specific conditions from your country of residence abroad.

Requirements to Apply

To enroll in our NRI Plan, you’ll need to provide:

• A duly filled proposal form and a recent photograph
• Proof of age, income, and an active Indian bank account (NRE/NRO)
• Passport copy, PAN/Form 60, and NRI Questionnaire
• Permanent Indian address proof, FATCA form, and a valid email ID
• Medical test reports, if required

If applying from abroad, forms may be witnessed by authorised officials such as the Indian Embassy, Bankers, or Notaries.

Tax Benefits on Life Insurance Policies

• Premium Paid: Premiums paid toward your life insurance plan qualify for deductions under Section 80C, up to 10% of the sum assured in any financial year.
• Maturity or Surrender Value: Exempt under Section 10(10D) if premium payments stay within the prescribed limits.
• Death Benefits: Fully exempt under Section 10(10D), subject to applicable conditions.
• TDS on Proceeds: Where exemptions don’t apply, TDS may be deducted. NRIs can seek relief under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).

Tax Benefits on Pension and Annuity Plans

• Premium Paid: Contributions made to pension or annuity plans are eligible for deductions under Section 80CCC.
• Pension Proceeds: Up to one-third of the commuted pension is tax-free under Section 10(10A)(iii). The remaining annuity income is taxable as per current laws.
• Death Benefits: Lump-sum death benefits remain tax-exempt.
• Surrender or Annuity Proceeds: Taxable as per prevailing tax rules, with applicable TDS for NRIs under DTAA provisions.

Taxes and Cess on Premiums

Applicable Goods & Services Tax (GST), cess, or other statutory levies are charged as per current government regulations.

• For ULIPs (Unit Linked Insurance Plans): Taxes apply to mortality, fund management, and administration charges.
