- Visit the official website of Income Tax at https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- On the homepage, locate the 'Quick Links' section on the left side.
- Click on the 'e-Pay Tax' option or use the search bar to find 'e-Pay Tax'.
- Enter PAN and re-enter to confirm it. Provide mobile number and click 'Continue'
- Enter the 6-digit OTP received on mobile number and click 'Continue'.
- Select the correct Assessment Year and Payment Type.
- Under the ‘Type of Payment’, select ‘Self-Assessment Tax (300)’ and click on 'Continue'.
- Enter the payment amounts accurately under the relevant categories.
- Select the payment method and bank to make the tax payment and press 'Continue'.
- Payment can be made using internet banking, debit card, credit card, RTGS/NEFT, UPI or can choose to pay at the bank counter.
- After clicking 'Continue', preview the challan details.
- Double-check the payment information for accuracy.
- Click 'Pay Now' to make the payment or 'Edit' to modify the details.
- Tick the checkbox to agree to the Terms and Conditions.
- Click 'Submit To Bank' to proceed with the payment.
- A confirmation will be received once the tax payment has been successfully submitted.
Download Challan 280 (Offline)
If you are wondering how to download Income Tax paid challan, you need to know that Challan 280 can be downloaded from the web and used for offline tax payments too.
- Visit the official website of Income Tax India at https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- Click on the 'forms/downloads' option from the top menu on the home page.
- Click on the 'challans' option under the forms/downloads menu, which will take you to a webpage with a list of all the challans that can be downloaded. From this large list, spot 'ITNS-280' and click on it.
- Challan 280, like other challans, is available in two different formats: PDF and fillable form. Depending on your preference, choose the option.
Proof of Payment of Tax
After doing a successful payment transaction via the Challan 280 route, a challan counterfoil with many details will be shown. This is an important document for proof of payment of tax.
